Aug. 19 and 20 – Services Canceled

Dear friends,

I regret to inform you that Cong Temple Beth-El has had to CANCEL Shabbat services again this weekend Aug 19 and 20, due to a continuing sewer backup on the property believed to be originating from neighboring bungalows and a common drain pipe.

As this affects the Rabbi’s apartment, and use of our rest rooms, we have had to cancel.

Excavators and plumbers are working very hard, and we hope to have the synagogue up and running soon, but cannot get a definitive date for completion of the extensive repairs needed.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Shabbat Shalom

DUES LETTER; WINTER 2022

Dear Friends;

When I wrote to you last winter, we were unsure of the impact that the vaccines and new anti-viral treatments would have. With the utmost safety of our congregants in mind, and cooperative efforts of our Rabbi, Neal Loevinger, Cantor Len Zimmerman, and others, Congregation Temple Beth-El was able to safely reopen last summer for Shabbat services and the High Holidays. Seating was limited, with open windows and forced ventilation, but we got it done. As the virus wanes, we look forward to the summer of 2022, and a return to normalcy.

As our historic synagogue and Congregation approaches our centennial year (2023), it remains the last operating Conservative Shul in the ‘Borscht Belt’. Like all institutions, it requires continual funding to survive. We hope you will continue your generous support and participation so that we can maintain and upgrade this wonderful temple and cemetery for future generations.

This summer, we will be forming committees to plan and assist in our 2023 centennial celebration. If you would like to help, be sure to contact an officer or Board member.

DUES REMAIN AT 150.00/ FAMILY. It is your dues and donations that sustain our historic synagogue. (Includes cemetery privileges as specified in the bylaws).

Please call Mary-Ellen (518) 339-3219, or e-mail meseitel (at) aol.com with any questions.

SEPT. 1 – HIGH HOLIDAYS IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Dear Friends,

This past summer and the coming New Year and Yom Kippur holidays have posed many problems for our synagogue and its congregants, along with all houses of worship in all religions.

The Covid-19 pandemic has  posed a real threat to  the manor in which we Jews in America have come to take for granted and felt  comfortable celebrating and observing traditions that have  been passed down for millennia, let alone from our parents and grandparents.

After remaining closed for the summer of 2020,  we opened for services this past summer with the optimism of a receding pandemic and available vaccines, but were again  hit with a new ‘Delta’ variant, that seemed to defy our desire for normalcy…., in family life, work,  and all social interactions.

We are pleased to be able to hold High Holiday services in person this year, but sad that it had to be limited in scope and attendance.

NOTICE:   A CONFIRMATION EMAIL WAS SENT AT 2:50 PM EDT TODAY FOR ALL SEAT SEAT RESERVATIONS.  IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE THAT E-MAIL YOU DO NOT HAVE A SEAT.  No more seating is available due to the strict distancing required to meet the Covid-19 protocol.

For those not scheduled to attend indoors, A Shofar and Tashlich service is open to all at the State Boat Launch in Kauneonga, 2:30 PM Tuesday and a Shofar service is scheduled in the synagogue parking lot at 2:30 PM  on Wednesday WEATHER PERMITTING.

For those who are unable to attend in person, we have arranged an option to the link below for Zoom services, through the graciousness of Rabbi Susan Elkodsi, of the Malverne Jewish Center. The appropriate Machzorim needed to follow the Zoom service will be available at the synagogue over the Labor Day  weekend, at the lower entrance.

You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
When: Sep 6, 2021 04:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Register in advance for this meeting:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES – REVISED!!!!

Dear friends,

HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICES at Congregation Temple Beth-El  WILL BE SHORTENED  to accommodate the concerns of many congregants over the Covid/Delta virus.  ( We will retain the essence of the Holidays, as well as the mitzvah of the Shofar, while
adding an additional element of prevention, along with masking, spacing, and vaccination requirements.)

The Rosh Hashanah Service  is being rescheduled to about 90 minutes on Day 1 (and 2), (plus a Tashlich service (+ shofar) at the lake.)
YOM KIPPUR  SERVICES will also undergo significant shortening.

The deadline for seat requests is coming up this weekend. A new schedule of the shortened services will be E-mailed and available on our websitewhen completed by the Rabbi and Rituals Committee.

If reserved attendance is deemed low enough, we may move them back to  our synagogue.  If registration is too low, indoor services will be cancelled, we will still  do an abbreviated Shofar service at the state beach with taschlich.

Thank you for your patience in these matters, and your support.

Larry Seitelman

PS:  checks are not being cashed, as indoor services may be cancelled.  The link to Zoom Hi Holiday Services from Rabbi Elkodsi, from Malverne Jewish Center, will be re-sent with a future E-mail.HIGH HOLIDAY SERVU]ICE

HIGH HOLIDAY INFO & SEAT REQUEST

Dear Friends;

We are pleased to present the 2021 (5782) High Holiday seat request form.  The Covid-19 pandemic  has  presented  a novel year with many hurdles,   and yet we are hopeful to celebrate and observe Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippor Services with our families and friends in person, and in the warm traditions of our Congregation.  In order to make that possible in a relatively  safe manner, and  consistent with best health practices and recommendations by the CDC and other authoritative medical resources, please note the following:

  • Rosh Hashanah Services will be held at the Smallwood Clubhouse.  The clubhouse is large, and reportedly has an excellent forced ventilation system.  (Erev Rosh Hashanah will be at the synagogue)
  • MASKS and VACCINATIONS ARE MANDATORY.
  • Seating at the clubhouse for Rosh Hashanah will allow some social distancing.  Please comply.
  • Seating for Yom Kippur at the synagogue will be tighter, determined by the number of attendees.
  • While tallisim and yarmulkahs will be on site, you are encouraged to bring your own.
  • Services this year are TENTATIVE and may be cancelled if the Covid situation continues to worsen. Your checks will not be deposited until holiday arrangements are finalized.
  • Note the schedule for location of services. Yom Kippur services (including Kol Nidre)  are currently planned  back in the synagogue.  The schedule will also be available on our web site.
  • Request Forms  must include the number of seats in each category (member, family member, non-member) requested.
  • While we are making extra effort to provide a safe environment, each individual must determine what is in the best interests of their own situation in deciding to attend  services.
  • If ANYONE in your household does not feel well, OR if you have been in the presence of someone who has tested positive for Covid within the previous 10 days,  PLEASE do not attend services

A High Holiday schedule and ticket order form follows. Priority will be given to paid up members. Completed Forms, with check, must be received by AUG 28th .

For those who would prefer a Zoom Service, see details on cover E-mail and on our web site.

We look forward to observing Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with all of you. The entire board extends its warmest wishes to you and your family for a very happy and healthy New Year.

L’Shana Tovah,

Larry Seitelman, President
