Meet the Rabbi

Rabbi Neal

Rabbi Neal Joseph Loevinger is our spiritual leader. 

Rabbi Neal, as he is known, is currently the Director of Spiritual Care and the Clinical Ethics Coordinator of Vassar Brother Medical Center, a Nuvance Health hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

He has worked in Jewish adult education in Toronto, served Conservative congregations in New York and Massachusetts and currently supervises the kosher kitchen at Vassar College.

Rabbi Neal was ordained in the first graduating class of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies of the University of Judaism, and also holds a Master’s of Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto, where he wrote what may have been the first ever post-graduate thesis on Judaism and the environment.

In 2023, Rabbi Neal completed a Doctor of Ministry degree at Hartford Seminary, now also known as Hartford International University for Religion and Peace. He is a member of the Rabbinical Assembly (Conservative), Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains, the Association of Professional Chaplains, the New York Board of Rabbis, the American Jewish Medical Association, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, through which he is credentialed as a Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified.
